How we got started
My father’s family knew their ancestors back to the late 1700s, and passed down stories of Luke, Luke II, Luke III, but had no connections tying us to them. It seems that many of us know our ancestors back three or four generations, but get stuck there. The inspiration for this web site is to help all of you get past that block in the road! If you can figure out your ancestors going back three or four generations, perhaps information here can help you connect into the overall family tree.
This web site has grown from a keen interest in the history of the Mizell and related families. Students of family history all seem to spend years ignoring their heritage, and one day wake up asking lots of questions. That leads to starting some type of family tree, even if it is only on paper. And at some point later, we start using a computer to keep us organized. Family Tree Maker© software has been extremely useful in this project.
We may never know all the branches of the Mizell Family Tree or all the connections of parents and children over the past several centuries. This is especially true of the family units in the 1700s.
My goal for the past several years has been to assemble a “big picture†of the family tree, through trying to organize many pieces of information, mostly compiled by others. Some information is exceptionally well documented, while other information is speculative (i.e. we may know the name of an ancestor’s parent in the 1700s, but of all those names identified in the tree, we may not know which one is the true parent, so someone makes an estimate based upon the years and or the places involved). While we can debate whether we should compile a tree in the absence of exact data, I have pursued the “big pictureâ€, recognizing that there will always be some fuzzy parts.
Genealogy can be a fascinating hobby and can lead to great personal satisfaction knowing the people and places where we can from. There always seems to be another question that can be asked or another assignment that can be tackled. May this website help you on your journey.
