More about JOSEPH HENRI MIZELL
Joseph Henri Mizell seems to have come from a family of aristocrats who lived in the Moselle River valley in France. He was in his late-50s when something drove him and his grown children (and presumably any spouses and children) to depart France. Charleston South Carolina had developed into an active seaport during the 1700s, and French trading ships stopped there frequently. They had enough money to pay passage out of France to the New World, but the reasons why they left are unknown. Perhaps it was religious strife and social unrest, the same reasons that led to Luke’s arrival some 150 years earlier.
